Cantalupo nel Sannio and its surroundings

Cantalupo nel Sannio is located at the slope of the stunning mountain range of Matese and close to the Pescasseroli-Candela ancient path of transhumance along the Italian peninsula. The surrounding territory, inhabited by Sannite populations before Roman times, is rich in archeological sites, worship and pilgrimage sites, castles and medieval towns, old crafts, agricultural, musical and culinary traditions, as well as charming Apennines landscapes, with hills, forests and rivers.

Almost halfway between Isernia (18km) and Campobasso (34km), and within short distance to beautiful localities such as Roccamandolfi (6km), Macchiagodena (8km), Sant'Angelo in Grotte (11km), Castelpetroso (9km), Santa Maria del Molise ( 7km) and San Massimo (9km), Cantalupo nel Sannio is the junction of a dense network of hiking trails, with six landmarks of Sentiero Italia starting from or crossing its immediate surroundings.

Moreover, in Pesche (17km) and Frosolone (16km) all climbing enthusiasts may enjoy beautiful rocky walls.
